Little River Golf Club, a Dan Maples
Classic, was named one of the top ten new courses in the United States
by Golf Digest in 1996. Only a few miles are 42 golf courses and the
famed Pinehurst #2, site of the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Opens. Pine Needles
Golf Club, site of the 2001 U.S. Women's Open, is also nearby.
Lake Luke Marion boasts a tree-lined walking trail plus abundant fish
and wildlife. Nancy Kiser Park, a 9-acre community park, has a
baseball/softball field, playground, tennis courts,
basketball/volleyball courts, amphitheater, more. Hillcrest Park, a
45-acre multi-purpose county park and athletic complex, features
baseball, soccer and football fields.
Nearby North Carolina Speedway hosts the finest stock car racing in
the world.
There's also the Buggy Golf Tournament, the
Carthage Buggy Festival Barbecue Cook-Off and the Mayberry Comes to Carthage
events to keep folks busy, well-fed and entertained.
